Vehicle Identification Enable this setting to scan or enter vehicle information in TireBuddy. You can select how you want to identify your vehicle by enabling or disabling the following options:
License Plate Enables the use of the License Plate Scanner within the Vehicle Identification tool in the TireBuddy App.
tipYou can select the scanning region (US, Europe, Canada) in the Region section.
VIN Activates the VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) Scanner.
Case Identifier (Barcode) Allows you to scan or manually enter an additional identifier related to the vehicle—such as a customer ID, employee ID, tracking number, or any other reference. Use the Barcode Scanner for quick entry, or type it in if the identifier is not encoded in a barcode.
Odometer Enables manual entry or use of the Odometer Scanner within the Vehicle Identification tool in the TireBuddy App.
Vehicle Make Enables manual input of the vehicle brand (e.g., Mercedes-Benz, Audi). This helps maintain complete vehicle information and supports accurate documentation in your inspection reports.
Vehicle Model Allows manual entry of the vehicle model (e.g., S 580 4MATIC, Q6 e-tron). Providing the model helps maintain accurate records, supports consistent documentation, and ensures the correct information appears in your inspection reports.
Vehicle Year Allows manual numeric entry of the vehicle's production year (up to four digits, e.g., 2016).
Custom Field Enter the title of a custom field for any specific additional information you wish to include in your reports.
Please Note
If this checkbox is enabled but no title is assigned to the Custom Field, the text field will still appear when entering vehicle information, but its label will remain blank. Please ensure a title is added for clarity.
Vehicle Notes Enable this option to record any additional notes about the vehicle.
Tire Identification Enable this setting if you wish to scan tire information using OCR. You can select how you want to scan your tire by enabling or disabling the following options:
One-Shot Sidewall Enables our One-Shot Tire Sidewall Scanner, which automatically captures all visible tire data in a single scan. This includes the tire’s DOT/TIN, size, make, and model. A helpful user guide overlay is included to assist with alignment and clarity during scanning, ensuring maximum data accuracy.
DOT/TIN Activates scanning or manual entry of the tire's Department of Transportation (DOT) or Tire Identification Number (TIN), which is used for traceability, regulatory compliance, and recalls. This setting can be used independently if you're only interested in identifying the tire’s serial and manufacturing details.
You can also set this option to only scan the Production Date or to scan the entire TIN.
Tire Size Allows you to scan the tire size, which can include such specifications as the width, aspect ratio, and diameter of a tire. (e.g., 225/45R17). Useful when validating size-specific compatibility or replacing tires.
Tire Make Enables detection or input of the tire brand (e.g., Michelin, Continental). This is essential for brand-specific diagnostics, matching tire sets, or adhering to OEM requirements.
Tire Model Allows scanning or entry of the tire model (e.g., Pilot Sport 4, EcoContact 6). Capturing this data helps improve diagnostics, enhances wear pattern recognition, and supports accurate replacement tracking.
Did You Know?
The DOT/TIN, Tire Size, Tire Make, and Tire Model can also be entered manually, giving you the option of both scanning and manual input.
Tire Notes Enable this option to record any additional notes about the tire.
Tire Tread Measurement Enable this setting to measure tread depth using the TireBuddy app. Choose how tread scan results are displayed:
Tire Tread Reported Values Choose how tread depth values are displayed after scanning:
- 3 Region Values – Shows three separate tread measurements for the inner, center, and outer regions of the tire. After scanning, you can manually edit any of the three values if adjustments are needed.
- Global Value – Shows a single combined or aggregated tread depth measurement for the whole tire. This value can also be manually adjusted after the scan.
Tire Tread 3D Visualization Controls the color style of the 3D tread visualization:
- Colored – Displays a multi-colored heat map to highlight variations in tread depth across the tire.
- Grayscale – Displays the same visualization using gray tones instead of color. This is purely a display preference and does not affect the measurement results.
Please Note
Visualization output may vary depending on scanning practices, device capabilities and/or integration settings.
Tread Results Thresholds This setting displays a color-coded bar that highlights three tread depth ranges from left to right. Tires in good condition are shown in green and have a threshold of ≥4.0 mm (or ≥6.0/32" depending on the selected Region and measuring system). Tires that require attention soon are shown in yellow and have a threshold of ≥3.0 mm (or ≥5.0/32"). Tires that need immediate replacement are shown in red and have a threshold of <3.0 mm (or <5.0/32").
Manually adjusting the Thresholds
You can adjust the Tread Results Thresholds by tapping the Edit thresholds button, which will take you to the Tread Thresholds page. There, you can update the values for the “Good condition” and “Replace” ranges. To restore the original defaults, tap the Reset to default button.
Please Note
The colored heatmap option is unavailable when using custom thresholds.

Region Select the region in which you are performing inspections: United States, Europe, Canada, or United States (Metric). This setting determines the regional formats and measurement systems applied throughout the app, including vehicle identification and tire-related measurements such as tread depth.
For example, when United States is selected, imperial units are used for tread measurements. Selecting Europe, Canada, or United States (Metric) applies the metric system instead.
tipThe Region setting can only be changed from the Settings menu by opening the Region option. If this setting is locked and grayed out, it cannot be modified.
